Rising CrossFit Stars: Per Widén

Name: Per Widén

Age: 35

Occupation/job: Manager in vocational education.

Background in sports: Rugby

CrossFitting since: March 2009

Affiliate: None, but we are quite many people around Örebro in Sweden that are training CrossFit.

What WOD/class made you decide to become a CrossFitter?

The fact that some of my friends were training CrossFit and the inspiration of CrossFit Nordic (Stockholm) and of course CrossFit.com.

How often do you train now ?

3 on 1 off

Do you follow any speciel programming or are you (just) doing the WODs at your box?

I try to follow the CrossFit Nordic WODs when I can, but I quite often do my CrossFit training at home. Blair Morrison’s blog gives good inspiration of outdoor WODs and how to find new ways to use the environment surrounding us.

Which one of your CrossFit related accomplishments are you most proud off so far?

To be able to do muscle-ups and HSPU.

What is your next goal(s)?

Too many this year… Sub 1:24 in 500 m row, BW OH-squat, BW press, +30 pullups, grace sub 3, Linda RX in a resaonable time.

The most difficult thing in CrossFit ?

The snatch

How do you keep the motivation high?

By training with other motivated people in the CrossFit community. From them I can learn and they encourage me through my weekly struggles. I also try to set measurable goals within date limits to make progress in my training, that makes “the trip” easier when the training days are boring.

Any good advice for new CrossFitters?

Train on your weakness(es). Don’t be afraid of scaling down. Don’t cheat.

Any questions for the community ? (this is your chance to ask experienced CrossFitters anything!)

How do you work to improve your body flexibility to have a bigger ROM?

Do you plan to attend any CrossFit competitions?

I might turn up somewhere.
