(Rising) CrossFit Stars – Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir

Here – a little late in our posts about Rising CrossFit Stars – Europe’s biggest female CrossFit star, Anníe from Iceland!
 
 
Name: Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir
 
Age: 20
 
Occupation/job: In the University of Iceland studying Biochemistry at the moment…
 
Background in sports: I was in Gymnastics for 7-8 years, until I was 15 years old, then I started dancing (ballet and modern dance). That was kind of a big jump from training for 4hours 6 days a week in the Gymnastics to 4 times a week in the dance, although it soon became more challenging… Fortunately I found Bootcamp witch I started doing along with the dance. I started in Pool vault 2007 but I never completely gave up Bootcamp. Now I’m in Bootcamp and CrossFit
 
CrossFitting since: 2 months before the CrossFit games 2009 and of intensity since Feb 2010.

What WOD/class made you decide to become a CrossFitter?
Competed in the CrossFit competition in Iceland and earned a spot for the CrossFit Games and just loved it!!

How often do you train now?
About 5-6 days a week.

Do you follow any speciel programming or are you (just) doing the WODs at your box?
Me and my friends usually put something together or go to a Bootcamp practice. We’ve been planning more ahead now since the Sectionals, Regionals and Games have been getting closer…

Which one of your CrossFit related accomplishments are you most proud off so far?
Probably the CrossFit Games last year…

The most difficult thing in CrossFit?
Last year it was muscle-ups!! Now probably working with max weights – just started doing that recently I’m more used to doing many reps with lighter weights or just working with my own body weight!!

How do you keep the motivation high?
I think it’s important to do various workouts in good company!! I feel good while working out and even better when I’m done… It’s weird liking the nausea disgust feeling but so be it!! 😉

Any good advice for new CrossFitters?
Just to keep on going no matter what… in the end it’s always worth it!!

Do you plan to attend any CrossFit competitions?
Competing at the European Regionals and then hopefully to at The Games 2010!! 🙂
Maybe even in the Fit As Fu*k CrossFit Challenge in Denmark in September 2010.

Shoulder press: 45 kg

Do you think the European CrossFit Regionals will contain a heavy event? Yes!

Which lift(s) would you prefer to see at such an event?

CrossFit total 2 could be a nice change – or maybe clean & jerk? I just hope it’s not deadlift again!!

Do you follow any special lifting program? No, but I focus a lot on squats (high rep) at the moment.

ENDURANCE

Shoes: Nike running shoes

How many times/week does your training include running and/or rowing?

2 – 3 times a week

Do you hope to see a lot of endurance work at the Regionals?

Not really 🙂 If so, I would prefer running.

Max reps muscle-ups: zero at the moment – but I’m working on it!

Non existent – I haven’t reached that level yet!
