Going to the Games

It’s never been a better time to be a CrossFit Games fan!

The 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games will be bigger and better than ever before! The competition starts early Friday morning on July 29 and finishes Sunday afternoon, July 31. There are many exciting developments this year for athletes and spectators. Get tickets!

At the Home Depot Center

The on-site experience is going to vastly better, and CrossFit HQ has already sold more tickets than last year. First and most important, the competitions  are going to be epic. Men, women and teams will share the track and stadium venues at the Home Depot Center. Masters athletes will have their own venue for competition (a temporary stadium in Lot 17), and will be going throughout the weekend.

Following the competitions is now going to be a whole lot easier. CrossFit HQ announces that they have established a seven-year partnership with IDS to do live scoring for the Games. This means you will now have up-to-the-second information on where athletes stand in any given event. For example, in an AMRAP workout, you will see each athlete’s rep count updating in real time.

At the Home Depot Center, the Jumbotron displays will be enhanced with the live scoring, and three scoring display towers are spread out so you’re never far from the stats. The Web site leaderboards will obviously have all the latest results, and will contain more stats than ever.

Life will also be great when you’re not at the competition venues. Visit the In-N-Out truck, the Michelob Ultra Bar tent, the WOD 101 training area, the Reebok store, the Kid’s Zone activity area, the traditional tent city, sponsor village, a cool zone, or CrossFit HQ’s home made beach!

On the Web

For fans around the world, there will be three video streams you can follow. The premiere stream will be a three-hour broadcast quality show coming to you live toward the end of each day. It will be a cohesive story of each day of the Games with the top heats of the day shown live. It will include competition action, summaries, highlights, analysis, and athlete profiles.

On top of that, we’ll have the Jumbotron experience streamed all day every day. This is what fans at the Home Depot Center see in the venue, combined with the local PA system. This will be streamed separately, even when the premiere show is going.

Finally, the Masters’ competition gets its own stream. Men and women in each of the four age divisions will compete for their titles. They’ll be going all weekend, and every second of the competition will be streamed for your viewing pleasure.

SkyCams and Numbers

This year’s Games coverage will now offer the best views of all the action! CrossFit HQ will be shooting with two SkyCams, one at the Stadium and one at the Track. These are the flying cable cameras that give unprecedented views of the competition. This is epic!

Ever had trouble figuring out who is who when watching a CrossFit competition? This year, numbered uniforms arre added to remove all doubt. Last year, more than 130,000 people tuned in to the live Web cast. This year, had nearly 2 million absolute unique visitors and more than 30 million page views on the Game site since the Open started.

Bottom line: It’s never been a better time to be a CrossFit Games fan!
